Jason Guyton (Grappling Coach)
Jason was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He prepped at Hazelwood East where he wrestled for Hall of Famer Head Coach Jim Paulsen & Hall of Famer Paul Lapinski at Hazelwood East High School. Jason was a 3x state placer, 2x state finalist and was undefeated and State Champion as a senior in 1994. Jason also went on to qualify for the USA Junior National Wrestling Championship in Fargo, North Dakota. After high school, Jason received a wrestling scholarship to attend Howard University where he was a 3x NCAA D1 Eastern Regional Finalist and became the first freshman in the history of Howard University wrestling to qualify for the NCAA D1 National Championship (1995) and was a NCAA National Championship qualifier again in 1997. Jason was the HBCU MEAC conference champion in its last year (Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Tourney), and was named Howard University Male Athlete of the Year (1995). After college, Jason went on to serve in the U.S. Army for 12 years. He then moved into the Huntsville area in 2017. Jason has recently started a wrestling organization (Guyton Wrestling) and trains wrestlers in the north Alabama area. He has a tremendous passion for the sport of wrestling, but also has a huge desire to see our youth exceed their expectations in whatever sport they are participating in. Jason works with football players using wrestling drills (grappling) to help supplement and enhance the skills used so often now in the sport of football. Jason specializes in coaching grappling.
