Ralph Battle (Defensive Back Coach)

 

 

Ralph Battle was born in Huntsville, Alabama and has lived in Huntsville since 1961.  Ralph prepped at J.O. Johnson High School where he was named a first team All-City selection as a strong safety in both 1978 and 1979.  He was also named a member of Johnson's All-Decade Team.  After high school, Ralph was awarded a football scholarship to play defensive back at Jacksonville State University where he lettered 4 years and was named All-Gulf South player in 1980 and 1982.  Ralph went on to earn a spot on the the roster of the Cincinnati Bengals in 1984.  In 2012 Ralph was inducted into the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame.  He has been involved in the Huntsville community for several years as a Scout Master (for the Boy Scouts), involved in the Outreach Clinics and currently works for the City of Huntsville Parks and Recreation Department.  He also assisted in coaching the Jr. High and Jr. Varsity football team at Whitesburg Christian in 2019 and 2019.  Ralph is AHSAA certified and specializes in coaching defensive backs.

Andy Fuller
Andy Fuller (TE/H-Back/Receivers Coach)

Andy was born in Huntsville and prepped at J.O. Johnson High School where he was a two-time All-City lineman  in the early 1990's.  After high school, Andy signed a football scholarship to play tight end at Auburn University for legendary Coach Pat Dye.  Andy was a 4-year letterman, part of Auburn's 11-0 season in 1993 and was named All SEC in 1994 and 1995  for the Tigers.  Andy won the Shug Jordan Award as the team's Outstanding Senior Player, was named "Top Tiger" for his academic record, and participated in numerous community service projects throughout his college years.   Andy was signed as a free agent by the Miami Dolphins in 1996 and , he played with the Barcelona Dragons of NFL Europe in 1997.  He went on to play  a year with Mobile of the Regional Football League and returned to his hometown in 2000 to play five seasons with the Tennessee Valley Vipers of the Arena league. Andy transitioned to coaching and became a graduate assistant and later a full-time assistant on the staff of former Alabama A&M coach Anthony Jones. He was elevated to assistant head coach by new Alabama A&M coach James Spady in 2014.  Andy coached at Alabama A&M until 2017.  In 2015 Andy was inducted into the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame. He assisted in coaching the Jr. High football team at Whitesburg Christian in 2020.  Andy specializes in coaching tight ends, H-backs and receivers.

Freddie Goodwin
​Freddie Goodwin (Inside and Outside Linebacker Coach)

 

Freddie Goodwin was born and raised in Leighton, AL and has lived in Huntsville since 2000.  Freddie was an All-State Linebacker in 1985  for Colbert County High and was part of the 1985 5A State Championship team that beat Dora High in the finals.  Freddie was awarded a scholarship to play football for  Jacksonville State in 1986 and went on to play outside linebacker for the Gamecocks.  Freddie was a 4 year letterman and All-Gulf South Conference linebacker.  After his career at Jacksonville State, Freddie had stints in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts and the Atlanta Falcons.  He has been a volunteer youth coach in Huntsville for several years.  Freddie specializes in coaching inside and outside linebackers.

Dustin Haraway
Dustin Haraway (Linebacker Coach)

Dustin was born in Huntsville and grew up in nearby Madison, AL.  Dustin prepped at Bob Jones High School where he was a 2-year starter at outside linebacker.  Dustin earned All-region honors during his senior season.  After high school, Dustin signed a football scholarship to play outside linebacker at Georgetown College for legendary Coach Bill Cronin.  Dusting was a 4-year letterman and a 3-year starter for the Tigers.  Dustin was an All Mid-South Conference performer in 2015, 2016, and 2017 and made the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame All-Commonwealth Team prior to his senior season. Dustin had the unique privilege of playing alongside his brother, Dylan, in both high school and college.  Throughout college, he was involved with FCA.  Dustin graduated from Georgetown and is working in the wealth management field.  Dustin specializes in coaching linebackers.

Michael Harper
Michael Harper (Quarterbacks Coach)

​

Michael grew up in Oxford, Alabama and moved to Jacksonville when he was 15.  He prepped at Jacksonville Christian where he was part of the 1998 Southeastern Christian Conference State Runner up team.  After high school, Michael attended Jacksonville State University and began coaching at his high school alma-mater during his sophomore year at JSU.  In 2005, Michael graduated from Jacksonville State and began teaching and coaching at Jacksonville Christian until 2008 when he moved into the Huntsville area.  Michael began his coaching career in Huntsville at Hampton Cove Middle School where he was the Offensive Coordinator.  He later was hired as wide receivers coach at Huntsville High and became the Head Football Coach at Liberty Middle School from 2011-2013 and 2016-2017 where twice during his tenure at Liberty his teams posted undefeated seasons.  In between coaching stints at Liberty, Michael was the running backs coach and quarterbacks coach at James Clemens High School.  He is currently head football coach at Whitesburg Christian Academy.  Michael specializes in coaching quarterbacks.

Hoss Johnson
David 'Hoss' Johnson (Offensive Lineman Coach / Founding Member)  

 

The FIELD co-founder David “Hoss” Johnson was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama.   Hoss was a two time Alabama High School All State lineman and All American in 1982 for Butler High. He signed a scholarship in 1982 to play football for Coach Bear Bryant at The University of Alabama.  Hoss lettered 3 years and was part of the All Decade 80′s Team at Alabama.  In 1987 Hoss signed a free agent contract with the St. Louis Cardinals and later that year was signed with the Tampa Bay Bucs by his former college coach Ray Perkins.   For the last 25 years Hoss has worked with youth and adults in a variety of sports.   In 1997 Hoss was inducted into the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame.  Hoss recently retired from the Huntsville City Recreation Department after a 25 year career with the city.  Hoss is currently the National Football Director with Score International.  Hoss is a USA Football and AHSAA certified coach and attends several coaching clinics each year to continue his coaching development and learn about current approaches practice techniques.   He assisted in coaching the Jr. High and Jr. Varsity football team at Whitesburg Christian in 2018 and 2019 and is currently coaching the middle school football team at Madison County.  Hoss specializes in coaching offensive and defensive lineman.

Patrick Junen
Patrick Junen (Offensive Lineman Coach)

Patrick Junen was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama.  Patrick prepped at Huntsville High School where he was named a first team All-City selection as an offensive lineman.  He was invited to walk-on at Ole Miss in 2010 and earned a starting position at left guard for Coach Houston Nutt in his freshman year.  Patrick was awarded a scholarship in 2010 and went on to be a 4 year letterman, playing his last two years for Coach Hugh Freeze.  He played in the 2013 BBVA Compass Bowl (against Pittsburgh) and the 2013 Music City Bowl (against Georgia Tech).   He graduated from Ole Miss, moved back to Huntsville and is currently and engineer for NASA.  Patrick specializes in coaching offensive lineman.

Jason Guyton
Jason Guyton (Grappling Coach)

 

Jason was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri.  He prepped at Hazelwood East where he wrestled for Hall of Famer Head Coach Jim Paulsen & Hall of Famer Paul Lapinski at Hazelwood East High School.  Jason was a 3x state placer, 2x state finalist and was undefeated and State Champion as a senior in 1994.  Jason also went on to qualify for the USA Junior National Wrestling Championship in Fargo, North Dakota.  After high school, Jason received a wrestling  scholarship to attend Howard University where he was a 3x NCAA D1 Eastern Regional Finalist and became the first freshman in the history of Howard University wrestling to qualify for the NCAA D1 National Championship (1995) and was a NCAA National Championship qualifier again in 1997.  Jason was the HBCU MEAC conference champion in its last year (Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Tourney), and was named Howard University Male Athlete of the Year (1995). After college, Jason went on to serve in the U.S. Army for 12 years.  He then moved into the Huntsville area in 2017.  Jason has recently started a wrestling organization (Guyton Wrestling) and trains wrestlers in the north Alabama area.  He has a tremendous passion for the sport of wrestling, but also has a huge desire to see our youth exceed their expectations in whatever sport they are participating in.  Jason works with football players using wrestling drills (grappling) to help supplement and enhance the skills used so often now in the sport of football.  Jason specializes in coaching grappling.

David Knott
​David Knott (Defensive Back and Strength/Conditioning/Combine Training Coach)

 

​

David Knott "DKNOTT" was born and raised in Brandon, Mississippi and has lived in Huntsville since 2000.  DKNOTT prepped at Brandon High School High where he was team captain and awarded most valuable defensive back.  He was then awarded a scholarship to Hinds Community College where he played for two seasons.  After his career at Hinds DKNOTT was awarded a scholarship to play at Ole Miss.  During his career at Ole Miss he played defensive back for Coach Billy Brewer, Coach Joe Lee Dunn and Coach Tommy Tuberville.  He lettered 2 years and was named one of the permanent team captains as a senior.  DKNOTT went on to play in the NFL for the Detroit Lions and Arena football for the Alabama Vipers and the Tennessee Valley Pythons.  DKNOTT is a professional personal trainer in Huntsville and specializes in preparing athletes to excel in combine testing.  DKNOTT is AHSAA certified and specializes in coaching defensive backs.

Kody Kasey
Kody Kasey (Defensive Back and Returners Coach)

​

Kody is from Pickerington, OH and prepped at Pickerington North High School where he was named second team all conference.  After high school, Kody attended Georgetown College.  In his sophomore year Kody suffered a season ending injury to his leg that was so severe that he had to choose to continue a likely future of numerous surgeries and a likelihood of life without physical activity or have his leg amputated.  Kody chose amputation and an uphill battle using a prosthetic leg to get back to the football field.  Kody lettered 4 years and played defensive back and returned kicks for the Tigers.  Kody was awarded the Mid-South Conference Champion of Character Award and also received the Touchdown Club of Columbus President's Award.   Kody also represented the United States on an Athletes in Action USA football team in 2018.  He received a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice from Georgetown College.  Serving and spreading the Word of God is Kody’s passion, through his testimony he shares how God has given him a victory beyond competition on the football field.  Kody specializes in coaching defensive backs and returners.

Deano Orr
Deano Orr (Linebacker/Running Backs Coach)

​

Deano grew up in nearby Courtland, AL.  He prepped at Courtland High School where he was a 3-sport athlete, an All State running back and defensive back and was part of Courtland High School's first state championship team in 1988.  After high school, Deano was awarded a football scholarship to play at Ole Miss where he played on both sides of the ball.  Deano lettered 4 years and was named the National Football Foundation & Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award at Ole Miss (1989) and also earned Academic All-SEC Honors from 1991-1993.  Deano currently serves as a member on the Ole Miss M-Club Board of Directors.  Deano is currently serving as a substitute teacher and assistant football coach at R.A. Hubbard High School while pursuing his Masters in Ministry at Huntsville Bible College.  He is also a founding board member of HEAL (Hubbard Educational & Athletics League), a non-profit organization that promotes athletics and academic achievement in the Courtland-Town Creek community.  Deano specializes in coaching running backs and linebackers.  

Keith Shoulders
Keith Shoulders (Inside and Outside Linebacker Coach)

 

Keith Shoulders was born and raised in Tanner, Alabama has lived in Tanner since 1990. Keith prepped at Tanner High and was named to the Decatur Daily's All-Area team in 2006-2007 and named to the Athens News Courier's All-Area team in 2005 and 2007.  He was awarded a football scholarship to Samford University in 2008 and played for Coach Pat Sullivan.  Keith went on to become a 4-year letterman, and was named Team Captain in 2012. Keith is also a part of the Next Level Football organization that conducts camps in Tanner, Birmingham, and Mobile. Keith specializes in coaching inside and outside linebackers.

Franky Smith
Franky Smith (Offensive and Defensive Line Coach)

​

Franky was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama and prepped at Jackson-Olin High.  He was awarded a football scholarship to Alabama A&M University and became a two-time All-American. He was Alabama A&M's male athlete of the year and the most valuable player on the football team in 1977. Smith was taken in the seventh round of the 1978 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos. After two season in Denver, Franky became the starter at right tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs. He later played three years in the Canadian Football League before closing his football career in the old United State Football League playing for the Birmingham Stallions. After his playing career Franky went into coaching and was an assistant football coach at Tuskegee for three years from 1985-87 and served as an assistant coach at Hampton University for seven years before returning to Alabama A&M as the offensive line coach for Ken Pettiford in 1994. Franky was inducted into the Alabama A&M Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Huntsville - Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.  Franky specializes in coaching offense and defensive linemen.

Scott Swatzell
Scott Swatzell (Linebacker/Running Backs Coach / Founding Member)

The FIELD co-founder Scott Swatzell was born in Memphis, Tennessee, raised in Thomasville, Alabama and has lived in Huntsville since 2007.  Scott was an Alabama High School All State linebacker in 1987 for Thomasville High and was invited to walk-on at Ole Miss in 1988.  After a successful redshirt freshman season, Scott was awarded a scholarship and went on to play fullback until 1991 for Coach Billy Brewer.  He lettered 3 years and earned Academic ALL-SEC those three years.    Over the last 13 years, Scott has worked with young athletes in a variety of sports.  Scott has a passion for the sport of football and has a desire to teach and assist young athletes master the basic fundamentals in the sport of football.  Scott is a USA Football and AHSAA certified coach and attends clinics and college practices to learn current approaches and practice techniques.   He assisted in coaching the Jr. High and Jr. Varsity football teams at Whitesburg Christian in 2018 to 2020.  Scott specializes in coaching running backs and linebackers.

Tony Woods
Tony Woods (Defensive Line Coach)

Tony was born and raised in Thomasville, Alabama and has lived in Huntsville since 1997.  Tony was an Alabama High School All State linebacker in 1989 and 1990 for Thomasville High and was part of the 1988 Thomasville High 3A State Championship team.  Tony was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Arkansas in 1991 and played for Coach Jack Crowe.  Tony finished his college education at Alabama A&M and began teaching and coaching football in Huntsville in 2003.  Tony has coached football at Whitesburg Middle, Grissom High, Huntsville High, and was the head football coach at Lee High School from 2015-2017.  In 2018 Tony stepped down as Lee High School's head football coach to become the principal at Lee High School.  Tony also spent 5 years working with the Department of Youth Services as a youth counselor supervisor. Tony is passionate about developing and mentoring our youth.  Tony specializes in coaching defensive lineman.
